Training with a heavy duty dog crate

Ever since I got my first puppy when I was a little boy, I have learned a number of different tricks when it comes to training a puppy so that it will grow up to be a healthy, functioning adult dog.  One of the best tricks that I have ever used has been crate training.  A lot of people do not like crate training because they feel that locking a puppy in a crate is something that is rather cruel.  However, nothing could be further from the truth.  A dog that is properly crate trained will be able to adjust easily to a number of different situations that they might have to deal with in their lives.  Plus, having a good heavy duty dog crate can also be very helpful when it comes to moving or travelling.  Imagine if you are taking your dog on a plane flight and they have never spent a second in a dog crate before.  That is something that will end up causing the dog a whole lot of stress, and that is why crate training from a young age can be so important.

The other thing that you ought to keep in mind is that it is natural for dogs to find closed off spaces where they can basically hide out and close themselves off from the rest of the world.  This is something that they do instinctively, as it is based upon their wolf ancestry.  For instance, I once owned a Chihuahua that I had never crate trained before, but he still managed to go under my couch or my bed in order to lie down and relax from time to time.  This is something that is completely natural, and so there is definitely nothing wrong with crate training.

Of course, the initial phases of crate training can be rather difficult, as you will need to be able to stand firm in your decision to put your puppy in the crate whenever he or she is acting out in a bad way.  Most puppies will not like being locked in the crate the first few times that it happens, but they will eventually grow accustomed to it, and once they have, they will likely view the crate as their own little space that they can go to whenever they feel like it.  In the meantime, it is a very humane way to provide consequences for your puppy’s bad actions, and so they will realize a cause and effect of certain things that they do.

If you own a puppy or are thinking about owning a puppy, crate training is a proven method when it comes to helping a young pup to learn the rules of the house.  Since I have been crate training my dogs, I have been able to help them to become very obedient and listen to me when I speak.  It is something that I definitely suggest to any and every dog owner out there.
